[Analysis & Review] WandaVision Episode 7 [Impressions & Easter Eggs]
Hello!
Today it’s WandaVision episode 7, which dropped on Friday 19 February — the points worth flagging, the theories, and predictions for where all of this goes next.
Quick notes on everything that caught my eye on the first watch and the Easter eggs, and a proper verdict at the end.

The source comics & other bits
WandaVision is built on The Vision, volumes 1 and 2. That run was extremely well received and apparently picked up a stack of awards.
Also picked up the Japanese book Marvel Taizen, released 21 January 2021 — the kind of book that gets you a very long way into Marvel Comics in one go. Planning to work through it slowly on days off.
256 pages sounds short, but it’s a large-format book, so picture one of those big Shogakukan illustrated insect encyclopedias. So I think the amount of information in it is on another level compared to anything else on the shelf. And it came out in 2021, so it’s current lol
And then it has to be these!
Episode 7, “Breaking the Fourth Wall”
What the fourth wall is
As for what the fourth wall, the theme and the title of episode 7, actually is:
The line that divides the stage from the audience. An imaginary, invisible wall built across the front of a stage with a proscenium arch, a concept representing the boundary between the world inside the play, which is fiction, and the real world where the audience sits.

Anyone who reads this blog is bound to think of Deadpool here. And then there’s that scene in the Japanese drama Furuhata Ninzaburo where the spotlight comes down on him!
The parody is Modern Family
The sitcom being parodied in episode 7 was Modern Family! As for what kind of show Modern Family is:
Modern Family is an American comedy-drama series. It began airing on ABC on 23 September 2009 and reached its finale with season 11 on 8 April 2020. The show runs in a mockumentary format, with the characters speaking directly to camera at various points. It follows Jay Pritchett, the wife he remarried and her son, and Jay’s daughter and son and their families. Lloyd and Levitan built the show out of their own “modern family” stories.

That’s the gist of it. And sure enough, this one really was fiction shot like a documentary.
The font and everything really is identical lol
An unstable world
In episode 7 the boys’ game consoles (a GameCube, an Atari), the milk, the furniture in the house all keep changing shape, which tells you that world has gone extremely unstable, presumably because of the Hex being expanded in episode 6
The hexagon duvet
The duvet Wanda has over her at the start of the story has a hexagon pattern, so the hexagons that have been foreshadowing things across the whole of WandaVision turn up here once again. (Details here)
The way I see it, these hexagons are foreshadowing AIM, and my read is that Director Hayward is AIM’s boss, or one of their agents. I write up the Hayward-and-hexagons connection properly in the “After finishing episode 7” section of this post.
Tommy can read minds
Sugar Snaps
The cereal Wanda pulls out of the kitchen cupboard was called Sugar Snaps.
Which is obviously Thanos and his finger snap (Snaps).
The missing children
Children seem to be going missing around the town. While watching I assumed it was Wanda’s doing, but Agnes (Agatha from here on) looks to have taken Wanda’s boys off somewhere (or killed them), so maybe it’s Agatha’s doing. Details in the “After finishing episode 7” section of this post!
Hayward’s plan
Get it ready.
We go today.
With the Hex quiet, he apparently means to take advantage and run Operation Cataract (cataract as in the eye clouding over). Which means episode 8 looks like it happens on the same day as episode 7.
Episode 7 was never broadcast
Going by the conversation between Hayward and his people, the events of episode 7 apparently aren’t being sent out as a signal.
The Hex has changed shape
Up to episode 6 the Hex was a hexagonal prism like the image below, but in episode 7 it’s a cube like the image above. Couldn’t quite make out the whole shape of the cube though lol
S.W.O.R.D. and Darcy join the circus
The S.W.O.R.D. agents and Darcy who got pulled into the Hex in episode 6 have indeed ended up as circus performers lol

Agnes lends a hand
Agatha turns up and offers to babysit for a Wanda who is at the end of her tether. And in that exchange she says
I bit someone once.
At the time it seemed like a joke, but given that she’s a witch, it’s starting to feel like the truth.
The TV broadcast tells you everything
The words on the TV programme Wanda was watching felt a bit loaded, so I’ll set them out.
In the second half the Commanders
mounted a perfect attack from the off
and the final goal came
from the left corner
Agatha turning out to be the one behind everything, plus Agatha’s house sitting to the left of Wanda’s house (which you can work out from the birth in episode 3) — put those together and the reporter’s words describe WandaVision itself.
My head feels weird.
It’s really loud in there.
