I’ll be writing up the key points I want to pick out from episode 1 of the MCU show Moon Knight, which dropped on Wednesday 30 March, plus the analysis, the explanations, the Easter eggs and predictions for where all of this goes next. Above all I’ll be explaining things like Arthur the villain and whether this connects to Blade.
In this post I’ll write briefly about the things that caught my eye on a first viewing and the Easter eggs, and then write up the analysis.

I’ve started shooting all sorts of things for fun lately. The camera is an α7 IV — shoot in RAW, edit in Lightroom, that kind of thing.
This time I shot in Ueno.
A former mercenary living with dissociative identity disorder (DID). The man who struck a pact with Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon, and became Moon Knight.
Also known as “The Fist of Khonshu.” A hero tormented by madness who has developed dissociative identity disorder, what people generally call multiple personalities. Like Daredevil, Heroes for Hire, the Punisher and the rest, he belongs to the street level, the type known as a vigilante or a crime fighter. He was originally a mercenary, and was granted power by Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. He also operates at times as “Mr. Knight,” dressed in a pure white business suit (plus a white mask).

So that’s who he is. He has multiple personalities, and it seems that at one point he even generated Wolverine / Captain America / Spider-Man personalities inside his own head lol
In the show the Marc Spector personality took Steven over and slaughtered the people around him! This one has violent content the MCU hasn’t had before, and I think it might be laying the groundwork for Deadpool!
This grandiose character is a moon god called Khonshu.
In the comics he was worshipped by the people of ancient Egypt, but because he can’t enter the Earth himself, it seems he picks a warrior to serve as his Avatar.
Which means the show looks likely to bring out all kinds of Avatars of the gods! Is the reason they can’t enter the Earth the barrier Doctor Strange and the others keep up, I wonder? It’d be fun if that barrier breaks in Doctor Strange 2 and the gods end up coming through!
The cult leader who presses Spector to accept the darkness inside him. It seems he passes judgement on whether a person is wicked from their past, present and future the moment he takes their hand. The judgement out of Egyptian mythology, exactly! But with no Time Stone anywhere, how is he doing it? Would be fun if it connects to the show Loki
In the comics he was a Nobel-class scientist, but it seems he ended up turning into a mad scientist.
This detailed scene from the Papyrus of Hunefer (made around 1275 BC) shows Hunefer’s heart being weighed against the feather of truth on the scales of Maat by the jackal-headed Anubis. Thoth, the ibis-headed scribe of the gods, records the result. If Hunefer’s heart is lighter than the feather, Hunefer is allowed to pass on into the afterlife. If it is not, Hunefer is devoured by the waiting Ammit.

It seems that in Egyptian mythology Ammit eats the people who are judged to be wicked. Is that monster near the end of the episode one of Ammit’s underlings? I wonder. A monster like that appearing on Earth in the MCU is extremely rare. Shang-Chi and Doctor Strange and the like did have them, so this really is the mythology side of things doing what it does.
The way Steven keeps watch on himself to see whether he moves around while he’s asleep was great. Sand, tape across the door — a real eye-opener.
Why was the goldfish a different one, I wonder? Maybe he ate it while he was asleep? lol And I’d assumed he was struggling with insomnia, but that wasn’t it. Turns out he was reading a book along with the audio in order to hold on to a sense of self.
The scarab, and the keyring on his phone and keys, look like they’ll turn into important items later on! The scarab especially — what is it? Something that lets you become an Avatar?
Layla is apparently a character original to the show! Looking forward to what happens with her!
Anyone who’s seen Eternals will know this, but the final scene there hinted at Blade and Black Knight turning up! The mood of this one is vaguely similar as well, so I keep hoping Black Knight at least might pop in for a second lol
As Shang-Chi and Eternals make clear, Phase 4 has had gods appearing on Earth and all sorts of other things happening on a huge scale. Each of those did give a proper reason for why they hadn’t appeared in the MCU until then, so I’m curious about the reason this one gives for the Egyptian gods keeping such a low profile so far!
