Here’s what I’m recommending to everyone this time!
Four nerdy friends and one very distinctive girl, Penny, and everything that unfolds between them —
America’s No.1 comedy series!!!
This one is a sitcom: thirty minutes an episode, shot with a live studio audience whose laughter you hear.
Which means you get pulled right along with them, laughing or welling up before you know it lol
A reported ¥100 million per episode in cast fees! Let me introduce you to it.
A doctor working at a university in California. A genius — he skipped grades. His day job is theoretical physics, but exactly as he looks, he loves comics and films. He regularly gets into cosplay, airsoft, and Star Wars marathons (watching every episode back to back).
He’s also a serious oddball, and arrogant with it. He’ll rubbish the humanities at every opportunity, and he makes racially loaded jokes without ever noticing he’s doing it lol
He also decides what he does by the day of the week. No interest in romance whatsoever.
Look at that. That smile of his.
Apparently in America, people this eccentric get described as having “Sheldon syndrome.”
A doctor at the same university as Sheldon. A genius too, obviously. An experimental physicist working on laser technology.
Money being what it is, he shares a flat with Sheldon. His nerd credentials are every bit the equal of Sheldon’s.
Sheldon never stops mocking him about which university he went to and about his height — and yet, for all that, Leonard genuinely respects him.
He’s in love with Penny.
Sheldon and Leonard’s neighbour.
She finished at high school and doesn’t follow much of the nerd talk or the academic talk, but she’s far too stubborn to back down, and she handles the lot of them beautifully.
Quite the expert when it comes to romance. Make of that what you will.
A doctor at the same university, from India.
His family back home is seriously wealthy, which he brings up now and then — but he cannot speak to women. He’s Indian, so religiously he shouldn’t be eating pork, and yet I feel like I see him eating it constantly.
One of the nerd crew.
An engineer at the same university. He has a master’s, and Sheldon never lets him forget it.
Lives with his mother, and is a full-blown mummy’s boy. He might just be the creepiest of the four. He adores women and is forever chatting them up, and he gets turned down every single time thanks to the creepy way he talks and the creepy things he comes out with.
One of the nerd crew.
Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Doctor Who!!! It is packed with everything I love.
This might surprise Japanese readers, but this kind of material is widely accepted around the world. Looked at the other way round, maybe we’re the sensitive ones.
It’s interesting to watch and pick up how Americans think. There are jokes about which university you went to, too lol
Famous scientists like Stephen Hawking, the man behind Darth Vader, Stan Lee, Steve Wozniak, and more.
That’ll do for now.
The human drama side of it is good as well. If it sounds like your thing, you can watch it on Netflix!
