This time it’s a forecast for Spider-Man, out in Japan on 11 August, built entirely out of the trailers!

When it comes to Spider-Man, the Tobey Maguire version is dead centre for my generation.

Worth spelling out for anyone who isn’t deep into movies: this is the second reboot.

A reboot means wiping the cast and crew and building the whole thing again from scratch.

So far there have been

the Spider-Man / Spider-Man 2 / Spider-Man 3 series, and then The Amazing Spider-Man / The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a second series.

This one is the first solo film since Spider-Man joined the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe)!!

So expectations are sky high!!

The MCU version of Spider-Man first appeared in Captain America: Civil War. It matters for all kinds of reasons, so it really is worth seeing first (although getting to Civil War means watching a pile of other films first…)

Trailer 1 — forecast and analysis

Right, let’s dig in.

Tony Stark, present and correct.

Looks like he’s Spider-Man’s mentor.

Which means the timeline sits after Civil War — this single shot tells you this is the newest point in the MCU.

After everything that went wrong in Civil War, having someone who relies on him must be a serious source of support for Tony Stark.

A robbery being pulled off with alien tech.

Presumably built out of technology scavenged from the corpses of the Chitauri, the alien army from The Avengers.

Armour that fires purple lightning.

And would you believe it — that is the technology of Crossbones, the villain from Civil War.

“We.”

Meaning there is more than one villain.

The main villain this time, Vulture.

He used to run a company that cleaned up the towns heroes and villains had wrecked. Then Tony Stark got into the clean-up business himself and took the work away, and that is what turned him bad.

Apparently the whole idea behind Vulture’s setup is: what if Tony Stark had gone bad?

The wings and the rest are said to be built from the tech of villains who have already turned up in the MCU — there are supposedly design cues from Ultron, Crossbones and the Chitauri in there.

Spider-Man, for some reason, in the sights of soldiers of some kind?

He’s only just started out as a hero, so maybe the public still reads Spider-Man as a villain?

So maybe Vulture is the one supplying the Crossbones-style gear and the robbers’ weapons.

This guy is trouble.

The absence of Vision here is the thing that nags.

Right, let’s dig in.

The suit Tony built.

Turns out the emblem on the chest doubles as a drone lol

Peter Parker is still a rookie and still a kid, and Tony doesn’t want him taking crazy risks — which is why he says things like this.

Kind of him. And Peter is absolutely going to go off on his own anyway.

The nerdy friend finds out the secret.

And he’s holding a LEGO Death Star, by the way.

Doesn’t want him doing anything dangerous, by the look of it.

Very much a parent.

And in the end he goes out in the homemade suit anyway lol

Wrap-up

This one probably covers Spider-Man winning the public over, and officially joining the Avengers.

Which is exactly why it makes sense that Spider-Man joins the fight in Infinity War.

But what on earth has happened to Vision?

Could Thanos have already taken the Infinity Stone off him?

Really want to know.

One more thing — with Vulture showing up, the villain team the Sinister Six surely has to appear in the second film!! They’re a hugely popular enemy team in the comics as well, so hopes are high
