Synopsis
One day, a colossal spaceship appears in the sky out of nowhere. Calling themselves a Vogon constructor fleet, their purpose is to blow up the Earth. Impressions & review
The cast is ridiculously stacked
First of all the lead is Martin Freeman!! Famous for the Sherlock TV series, The Hobbit, Black Panther and plenty more!!
Mos Def is well known for 16 Blocks as well!! Good film!
And Alan Rickman, famous as Professor Snape in Harry Potter, does the voice of this robot!!
The fact that this robot has clinical depression is so surreal it had me laughing lol
And then this man, Sam Rockwell!!
Famous as the villain of Iron Man 2 as well lol
More recently he was picked for Best Supporting Actor for a film called Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri — a seriously remarkable man!
A landmark of British sci-fi
The British way of looking at things is extremely distinctive, isn’t it lol
A bit twisted, a bit sarcastic lol
But I find that enormously entertaining!!! Especially with sci-fi and mystery — I think Britain is second to none!
And speaking of sci-fi! It has to be Doctor Who!!!

And Douglas Adams, the author of the original book, actually wrote a few episodes of Doctor Who himself~ lol
Right, to the main point! As I said earlier, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is not entertainment sci-fi but sci-fi with something philosophical about it!!
Let me show you a few passages from the original book below!
- The Earth sits on the planned construction site of a galactic highway, so it gets demolished when the work starts.
- The destruction of the Earth had been posted at the branch office on Alpha Centauri for fifty Earth years.
- Humans believe they are the most intelligent life form on Earth, but they are actually third. Second are the dolphins.
- The dolphins knew about the work and cleared out before the deadline. They were kind enough to tell the humans about it on the way out, but the humans were too foolish to understand what the dolphins were saying.
- The entry for “Earth” in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the bestselling guidebook for travelling the universe, reads “Harmless”.
- After field research on Earth, the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy improved the “Earth” entry a little, to “Mostly harmless”.
- An alien builds a supercomputer to calculate “the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything”. The answer it arrives at after seven and a half million years is “42”.

How about that?? A distinctive flavour, and great fun!!
And then the unexpected answer 42 to a question like “the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything”!
Somehow it almost feels convincing lol
What makes The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy so remarkable is that it produced a huuuuge amount of surreal, sharply sarcastic sci-fi and philosophical material like this!!
Also, search Google like this and 42 duly comes back — a stylish little touch lol
That’s how loved this work is!
It’s a comedy as well
Anyone thinking this sounds like a slightly difficult film~? It’s fine! It works perfectly well watched as a straight comedy lol
It’s also mainly a story about travelling around all sorts of planets with a cheerful bunch of companions, so I think even people who don’t get on with sci-fi can watch it and laugh!!
Basically I want everyone to see it!! lol
