[Predictions] Avengers: Infinity War (Trailer Breakdown) [Analysis]
Hello!
This time it’s Avengers: Infinity War, the third Avengers film, out 27 April 2018 — predictions and analysis built off the trailer!

Trailer breakdown
The first planet
Nice touch, having all these different people be the ones explaining what the Avengers are. It says everything about how the MCU is built out of so many characters.
Two suns in the sky, so this is apparently Xandar.
Xandar
Nova Corps ships
There’s something else, too — a faint floating shape behind Tony.
That silhouette is almost certainly a Nova Corps battleship, so that settles it.
But why is the place such a wreck? Fair question.
The Power Stone ended up on Xandar back in Guardians of the Galaxy, so Thanos and the Black Order (more on them later) probably hit Xandar first and made it their base.
The ship at the end of Thor: Ragnarok now looks confirmed as Sanctuary II, Thanos’ own ship. There’s no hard evidence for the timeline, but maybe it was on its way back from sacking Xandar.
And then Tony Stark.
Absolutely broken up.
And the place is Xandar. Did he get there with the Soul Stone, or through that portal that opened over New York?
Why the deathly serious face, though? Probably because… the Snap already happened??

In the comics, the Snap is Thanos killing half the universe as a gift to Death — not Hela, Thor’s sister, but Death, the goddess who basically is the concept of death itself.

For Tony Stark to be pulling a face like that, it has to be the Snap.
Banner and Doctor Strange
The New York Sanctum had only just been trashed by Thor’s umbrella in Ragnarok, and now the ceiling gets it…
How did Hulk get away after running into Sanctuary II? And how did he get back to Earth? Dying to know.
Half expected his lower half to be blacked out, but nope lol
Half naked means he came down as Hulk (Banner obviously isn’t punching through a roof in his own skin).
Hmm, so he drifted through space in Hulk form?
Leaks from the set say the Eye of Agamotto — the Time Stone — gets taken by the Black Order.
Well, the Infinity Gauntlet is getting completed either way, so this was never really in doubt lol
Wanda and Vision
Ohhhh, Vision!!
They’re together, out of nowhere, exactly like the comics!
Wanda — Scarlet Witch — is supposed to be on the run right now.
Then again, she can attack minds, so she’s probably managing just fine lol
Looks like the fugitives are all moving separately.
Vision’s human form shows up too!! Much easier to shoot lol

And there are probably twins on the way!! Probably lol
Twins born to Wanda, who is a twin herself. And the father is a super-being — human? — with an Infinity Stone set in his head. What kind of superheroes do those kids grow into lol
They feel like the ones who carry the MCU after Avengers 4.
Fun fact: the actress playing Wanda is the younger sister of the Olsen twins, the ones who played Michelle on Full House.
Thor
This is the Guardians’ ship, but the interior looks like nothing we’ve seen before? A ship we don’t know.
The Guardians are picking Thor up while he drifts through space. Which means the rest of the crew from the end of Ragnarok were all… killed by Sanctuary II? I wonder…
Dr. Banner in Wakanda
Dr. Banner in a seriously good mood.
The background tells us this is Wakanda.
And the palm on the Hulkbuster arm is a triangle. It was round in Age of Ultron, so this is probably the Hulkbuster Mark II.
Is that Natasha he’s talking to? If so, brilliant news! Are these two finally getting together??

And if that rumour is true… does Hulk retire in Avengers 4 as well…
The comics have She-Hulk, so maybe it’s about time the torch got passed?
Natasha has dyed her hair.
To stay off the radar? lol
So where does the Banner romance go?
The person facing him here is Natasha, no question. He’s holding his glasses in his hand, which makes this a scene where he lays everything out. And more than three years have passed since Age of Ultron. Long enough for Natasha to have found someone else. So this could be the scene where she tells him… that’s the feeling…. That is not the face of a man hearing happy news…
The portal over New York
New York. As reassuring as walking into your parents’ house.
Avengers Tower right there in the background.
And in Tony’s hand — the phone Cap gave him!!!!!!!!
Strange still has the Eye of Agamotto on his chest, too.
Although maybe it’s only the Time Stone inside that gets taken lol
A few things bother me here.
1. Everyone staring outside in shock — so the New York portal opens after they’ve all gathered??
2. Why is Tony there? — possibly Banner asked them to call Tony when he crashed into Strange’s place.
3. Why does Tony have the phone?? — Banner falling through the ceiling isn’t a big enough emergency to call Cap. So by this point, has the Eye of Agamotto or Vision’s Mind Stone already been taken?
Oh!!! Spider-sense!!
Finally!
Call it instinct, call it a danger sense!
A portal that appears with no warning whatsoever.
It looks a bit like the Ouroboros. In the third shot, part of New York is on fire. Which means the third one sits a little later than the first two?
So what is this portal for?
Far too big to just be a transport for Thanos. And there’s the Wakanda battle against swarms of creatures later on, so are portals opening all over the world?

Tony had the arc reactor taken out of his chest in Iron Man 3, and yet here it is again.
It wasn’t there in Homecoming, so this is a recent addition. And it’s non-circular, same as the Hulkbuster Mark II (working title).

Going by the leaks, that’s the suit he wears this time.
The wings on the back are the standout, and they aren’t in the footage yet.
The design has gone from inorganic to organic.
Black Panther
Rumour has it Tony is using the same tech as the Black Panther suit from the Black Panther trailer, or something along those lines…
The comics have liquid metal armour as well, apparently.
Loki and the Tesseract
This shot right here.
Look reeeeeally closely — those aren’t Loki’s clothes!!
Probably!! lol

The location is presumably Kamar-Taj, the sorcerers’ home base and training ground. Or, as a real long shot, Wakanda.
From the shape of the boots and the trousers, one of the sorcerers — Mordo, maybe?
No way to tell whether the person walking there is a traitor or a survivor.
What Loki is holding is the Tesseract.
It was sitting in the vault when Loki walked through it in Ragnarok, so that’s when he took it.
Rumour says Loki hands the cube over in exchange for Thanos not slaughtering his people.
Thanos arrives
So coooool!!!!!!
The charisma. The sheer authority.
Add up every second of his MCU screen time and it still comes to under an hour, and the presence is already overwhelming.

In the comics and in everything we’ve seen so far Thanos wears armour like that, and this time he’s taken it off.
No source for this! lol But apparently it’s meant to show the confidence that comes with getting hold of an Infinity Stone.
The producers declaring they want him to be the Darth Vader of the 21st century is a hugely encouraging thing to hear! Good odds, then, that there’s no secret mastermind behind him and Thanos never gets reduced to a warm-up villain. Let him march straight down his road of conquest.
From The Avengers
That blue gate Thanos steps out of — is it the Tesseract after all? Or is Marvel pulling one of their favourite sleight-of-hand tricks and it’s something else entirely? It does look darker than the Tesseract gate in The Avengers… hmm, or is that just a change in the staging?
The buildings behind him and the blue sky make it certain: the place Thanos arrives is Wakanda.
Still. Thanos with no armour… so good.
Iron Spider
Ohhhhhh!!! Iron Spider!!!
At the end of Homecoming, Tony almost handed him a new suit!
That suit is the Iron Spider!! What on earth can it do!!! lol
One thing bugs me.
Get the civilians out of here!
Is that line Spidey? The voice sounds way too deep?
Come to think of it, in the footage shown at Comic-Con in the US around summer 2017, Spidey was at death’s door with Tony holding him.
