[Speculation] Transformers: The Last Knight [Unicron]
Hello! This time I want to write up my predictions about Unicron, working from the trailers for Transformers: The Last Knight, out in summer 2017!
Now, I don’t know how many of you know this, but Transformers began with Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers, which started airing in 1984. It was produced by Toei, and watching it now you notice plenty of rough patches — off-model animation and so on — but robots transforming out of real vehicles to fight was just cool, and it gripped the hearts of a great many children.

First, the background you need for the Transformers films.
- The Transformers are metal aliens, forever at war — the heroic Autobots against the enemy Decepticons.
- They scan Earth vehicles and blend into everyday life.
- Most people on Earth dislike Transformers regardless of whether they’re Autobot or Decepticon (it plays close to an immigration question).
- The reason they’re on Earth at all is that their homeworld Cybertron is gone.
- At the end of the last film, Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, left Earth to go looking for the “Creators.”
That’s the main of it.
This film is the first of a new series, and the fifth if you simply count the films — but the most important thing to know is that there’s barely any continuing story, so you can start basically anywhere and be fine!

Anyway, I’ve drifted. Let’s get to the predictions from the trailers.
Optimus Prime, adrift in space. I’d guess he ends up like this either after meeting the Creators or on the way to them.
And for some reason he’s fighting Bumblebee, his own right hand.
My read is that Bumblebee is fighting to stop an Optimus Prime whose mind has been rewritten by the Creators.
This is Galvatron, leader of the Decepticons. He was Megatron before — the name became Galvatron when he died and was brought back.
There’s something demonic in this design too, which hints that he’s become more vicious and more brutal than he was.
And here’s the one that matters. There are other images, but this one will do as the example.
That round, enormous metal object you keep catching glimpses of in the footage. Doesn’t that point to Unicron turning up?
Unicron is the planet-sized, most powerful Transformer of them all, who appeared in The Transformers: The Movie back in 1986.

There are other reasons to think he’s coming.
- “Creators” is a word that belongs to Primus (more below) and to the Quintessons. The Quintessons being the aliens who built the Transformers.
- Galvatron first appeared in The Transformers: The Movie — so is Galvatron showing up itself the setup for Unicron?
- Are the knights of “The Last Knight” the original thirteen created by Primus?
- The toy listings for this film include a Quintesson figure.
First, Primus. He is the planet-form Transformer who is Unicron’s opposite number — the one Cybertron itself transforms into.

And there’s one piece of Primus lore that matters here:
The ancient Transformers created by Primus are known as “the original thirteen.”
The Fallen, who turned up in the second film, is among those names — so it’s fair to say director Michael Bay has been following this lore at least to some extent.
And when you say “knights,” you mean the Knights of the Round Table from the Arthurian legends. There are properly twelve Knights of the Round Table — but if you count The Fallen as the thirteenth, and remember that the thirteenth in Christian terms is Judas, it starts to feel like the pieces are lining up.
Which means — the new Transformers trilogy is going to be the story of Unicron vs Primus!! Surely!! (Roughly speaking.)
That was a quick run-through, but that’s all of it! I’d like to pull this together properly at some point lol
One more thing about the title, The Last Knight. I wonder whether it’s really “Last Night” — the final night. As in, the film ends with something biblically awful, a Last Judgement sort of situation.
