[Is the Bangle a Nega-Band? A Coming-of-Age Drama] Ms. Marvel Episode 1 [Damage Control Shows Up!? Full Rundown]
The MCU show Ms. Marvel, episode 1, dropped on Wednesday 8 June — I’m going to write up a rundown of it, plus a breakdown of the Nega-Bands, which look like setup for the Kree and the Skrulls, the key points of Ms. Marvel episode 1, the analysis, the Easter eggs and where all of this goes next.
This post runs briefly through the things that caught my eye on a first viewing and the Easter eggs, and then gets into the analysis.

A recent hobby
I’ve started shooting all sorts of things for fun lately. The camera is an α7 IV — shoot in RAW, edit in Lightroom, that kind of thing.
This time I shot Hakone.
Episode 1, “Generation Why”
Ms. Marvel
Kamala Khan finally arrives! Something like a little sister to Captain Marvel! Here’s how she works in the comics.
Species: Inhuman (mutated by the effects of the Terrigen Mist) / a Pakistani-American woman born in New Jersey.
Overview and history
A high-school superheroine who took over the Ms. Marvel code name (within the story, entirely on her own initiative). She debuted straight into the lead role of her own solo title, which is a rare way to be handled these days. She is the child of a Pakistani immigrant Muslim family, but she herself was born in New Jersey. New Jersey is also where she operates, which makes her a superheroine with an unusual background.
She was originally a human carrying Inhuman genes, but by chance she was caught up in the Terrigen Mist (the vapour of the elixir that grants Inhumans their powers), which leaked out during the Inhumanity event, and so she ended up with abilities. Her long-standing admiration for Ms. Marvel (the boots especially), plus a dream she had about her while unconscious, is what pushes her into taking the name Ms. Marvel and starting out as a hero.

In the comics she’s an Inhuman, a species along the lines of the mutants, but in the MCU it looks like she puts on that mysterious bangle and fights wrapped in cosmic power. She’s also the first MCU character with a Muslim background.
In the comics she fights by stretching and shrinking and swelling her arms like Luffy in One Piece, but in the MCU it looks like she fights by materialising a huge arm and the like out of cosmic power!
On top of that she’s the lead in the Avengers game, so her profile has risen a lot over the last few years!
Her own identity
Episode 1 lays out the worries every single teenager goes through at some point — Kamala’s future, breaking away from her parents. Whether she manages to pin down what she wants to do and establish her own identity across this show is something I’m really looking forward to!
And the contrast with Bruno Carrelli, Kamala’s best friend, who already has his path decided — that was good too.
Maybe Thor’s a gamer?
Anyone who’s seen Endgame will know Thor had ballooned out and was hard at work gaming lol And Kamala knowing all about it had me laughing lol
AvengerCon
Say Kamala and you say AvengerCon!!! The game also started its story at AvengerCon, so this was extremely satisfying!
America’s ass, the messages to Black Widow and Iron Man — all of it lovely I cried
Damage Control shows up
Damage Control, the outfit Tony Stark set up in the first place, turns up!
And that federal agent Cleary, the one who interrogated Peter and the rest in No Way Home, turns up too! Going by the trailer, Stark Industries drones seem to be turning up as well! Is Damage Control the one managing them now!?
After finishing episode 1
When does the eye mask come in?
Ms. Marvel’s trademark is that mask over the eyes! And the one wearing it first was Zoe, who goes to the same high school as Kamala.
If she maybe gets friendly with Zoe after that and is given the mask, or takes the influence and ends up wearing one herself, that would be hot!
Is Kamala’s bangle a Nega-Band? (Nega-Bands)
The bangle Kamala Khan got from her grandmother looks a lot like the Nega-Bands from the comics! For reference, the Nega-Bands are powerful relics of the Kree Empire from thousands of years ago, and by converting mental energy into physical energy they can apparently grant the wearer astonishing power.
The Kree and the Skrulls showing up!?
If the bangle is modelled on the Nega-Bands then the Kree and the Skrulls come into it, so they look likely to turn up in the final episode or thereabouts! And if Kamala’s grandma had been fighting the Kree or the Skrulls, that would be seriously fun!
Captain Marvel showing up!?
Captain Marvel, the one Kamala adores — would love to see her turn up! And if the Kree and the Skrulls are involved, there’s a chance!
Secret Invasion
If the Skrulls and the Kree really are involved, I think this is absolutely the way into Secret Invasion!
First, let me explain what Secret Invasion is.
Secret Invasion is
A major crossover from 2008. An important story that went on to shape the Marvel world for several years afterwards.
The Skrull Empire’s invasion of Earth, prepared over a very long time, begins all at once, and war with the heroes breaks out.
The shapeshifting Skrulls had already swapped themselves in for a great many heroes before the invasion started.

So as for what part Valentina plays in Secret Invasion: after the comics storyline called Secret War, a Skrull disguised as Valentina was spying on Nick Fury in order to learn a pile of secrets. But Fury got suspicious and killed that Valentina, and because the body reverted to its true form — a green-skinned Skrull — Fury realised that important figures all over the world had been quietly swapped out for Skrulls one by one.
Secret Invasion has also been officially announced as being in production.
And if the Skrulls used their shapeshifting to imitate the friends who have left us — Iron Man and Captain America especially — and throw everyone off, that would be even hotter!!
What comes next
Looks like a fight with Damage Control is coming.
Who is this woman? Looks like alien technology.
Is she Kamala’s grandmother? Too young for that, surely…
Looks like an enemy assassin.
Genuinely such a fun first episode!!
