Synopsis
A suspense film set in 1980s Texas, in which a man who gets his hands on a fortune tied to drug dealing is hunted by a pitiless killer. Directed by the Coen brothers of Fargo. Josh Brolin of American Gangster plays the man who takes the money, Javier Bardem of The Sea Inside the killer on his trail, and Tommy Lee Jones the sheriff trying to catch that killer. The draw is Coen brothers magic — a tension and a dread all their own, staged so as to lay bare what people and society are really made of.

Impressions & review
The three main characters
This man, Moss, finds money tied up with the mob and ends up hunted by a hitman.
He himself is a sharp-witted Vietnam veteran.
He doesn’t want his family dragged into it, but he needs the money, so he tries whatever it takes to get clear — and that strength of his was great.
The one playing this seriously dangerous-looking hitman is Javier Bardem. Lately he’s turned up in things like mother! too.
In this film he comes at people with a weapon that kills using air pressure.
That flat, matter-of-fact way of killing tells you it is simply his everyday life, and on top of that he carries a kind of creed — a philosophy where a coin toss decides whether the person in front of him gets killed.
The performance here is wonderful, and Javier Bardem won Best Supporting Actor for it!
Tommy Lee Jones plays the sheriff.

Cryptic
I think this is an extremely cryptic film!
For a start the sheriff is a fairly low-key presence, and his narration and his lines are clearly loaded with meaning, but what they actually mean doesn’t come through on a first watch.
Read a few pieces of analysis, though, and it turns out every one of the characters is a symbol of something, and working out how that ties back into the title is hugely exciting!
And it may be cryptic, but apparently plenty of the people who have seen it say they didn’t really get it and still found it great!
So I’d recommend this one to all sorts of people!
