MCU Phase 4

Big news! Looks like the Eternals are getting their own film!!!

Yesss!

What the Eternals actually are comes later in this post.

And the title of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film has been settled as well!

So it’s Vol. 3 — and as the article above says, what on earth will the Japanese title be…

Celestials, maybe? lol

What are the Eternals?

A race created a million years ago by the Celestials, who came to Earth and ran genetic experiments on early hominids. The Deviants and humanity were created at the same time.
Their scientific name is “Homo immortalis”.
They have immortal bodies and can manipulate cosmic power.
Many of them carry names and natures close to the gods of mythology, and humans have often mistaken them for exactly that.

In the comics Thanos is a descendant of theirs too, apparently.

Sounds like a seriously powerful group of super-beings, in the mould of the X-Men or the Inhumans.

Teams like that have come along plenty of times already, so how Marvel sets these ones apart is the interesting question.

What are the Celestials?

The MCU calls them Celestials.

They rank above the Cosmic Beings — the Grandmaster, Odin, the Collector, Thanos and the rest.

That’s the comics version of a Celestial.

On film they showed up in the first Guardians of the Galaxy too.

The Celestial in that image is presumably Knowhere, the place that appears in the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

In the MCU one turned up in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film.

This guy.

Bit of a Captain Marvel, isn’t he lol

If it really is being filmed, a proper explanation for why he wasn’t around during Infinity War would be very welcome!

What are the Deviants?

A race created a million years ago when the Celestials manipulated the genes of early hominids.
Their scientific name is “Homo descendus”.
Their genes are unstable and their forms mutate over and over, which leaves them looking monstrous.
That is why they are held to be the origin of the legends of demons.
They once enslaved humanity, based themselves on the continent of Lemuria and ruled almost the whole of the Earth apart from Atlantis.
They lost the war against the Celestials, though, and Lemuria fell. Since then they have been hiding deep underground.

Ahh, that explains it

Making them the origin of the demon legends is a lovely touch.

Monsters like demons, werewolves and mummies joining the MCU would be brilliant fun!

Short one, but that’s where this stops.
