[X-Men?!] Ms. Marvel Episode 6 [That Shocking Ending!]
The X-Men groundwork laid in Ms. Marvel episode 6, which dropped on Wednesday 13 July! A rundown of the episode plus the key points, the analysis, the Easter eggs and where all of this goes next.
This post runs briefly through the things that caught my eye on a first viewing and the Easter eggs, and then gets into the analysis.

A recent hobby

Kamala is an X-Man!!!!?????
Kamala’s powers don’t only come from being one of the ClanDestine like Aisha! They come from a genetic mutation! Which is to say she is a mutant!! And the music in the scene that reveals it looks like a mutation is a phrase from the opening of the animated series X-Men ’97!!!! This is insane!!!! Kamala is a mutant!!!?? Where on earth does this go!!!
So why have mutants suddenly appeared! Or have there always been mutants!? Though in that case, the fact that nobody on Earth ever found them is the nagging bit. How the X-Men get folded in — that is going to be a joy!
The Marvels!
Kamala’s bangle glows — and she swaps with Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel! The reason this reads as a swap of place rather than a swap of appearance: if it were only appearance, there would be a mirror and a reaction. So why the swap? Cannot wait for the film! Carol and Monica and Kamala bouncing off each other — want it now!!!
The costume!!
The Ms. Marvel costume finally arrives! And her mum being the one who makes it… I cried.
A deliberate contrast with the scene in episode 1 where the Hulk cosplay turned sour!
Where Kamran ends up
Red Dagger stepping in to help that quickly! lol I was expecting Kamran to fall out with Ms. Marvel over his mother, turn villain and sign up with the Thunderbolts lol
Will these two be turning up in stories set in Asia and the Middle East from here?
Nakia and Zoe
Zoe having known who Kamala was from the very start and keeping it quiet… I cried. And Zoe and Kamala making up properly — so glad.
For what it’s worth, in the comics Zoe develops feelings for Nakia. Plenty of Nakia and Zoe scenes this time round, so maybe it’s on the cards?
Damage Control’s weapons
Damage Control’s weapons had a blue glow to them. Rather like the alien technology the Vulture’s crew were carrying in Spider-Man: Homecoming!
Federal agent Cleary
Agent Cleary wasn’t so far gone morally that he’d storm a high school. Really did feel like the same man who interrogated Peter and the others in No Way Home lol
Agent Sadie Deever
Agent Deever’s justice taken way too far was something else. But with Secret Invasion still to come, the possibility that she is really a Skrull can’t be written off yet!
A Home Alone style defence
Holding off Damage Control with the power of chemistry had a lovely Home Alone quality to it lol Expected Zoe’s followers to come flooding in and turn the whole thing into chaos, but the numbers stayed surprisingly modest lol
Kamala’s love life
Kamran or Bruno, which one she’d end up with — there was a bit of hope riding on that. But recent work tends not to force a romance in, so this much was exactly right, and it felt real. Bruno being visibly jealous made me want to give him a push. Then again, he’s going a long way away, so maybe he’s trying not to put any weight on Kamala?
Ms. Marvel’s awakening and her name
Kamala awakens, can now sheathe her whole body in Noor energy, and gets those big hands from the comics! (In the comics she fights by making her body huge, like Luffy in One Piece.)
And the reason she comes to call herself Ms. Marvel! Lovely, that. It plays on marvel as a word of wonder and on the Marvel of Carol Danvers!
Where everyone goes next
Nakia is head of the mosque board, Bruno is off to the California Institute of Technology (over 40 hours by car if you want to see him), and Kamala had nothing at all lined up as of episode 1 — so the answer is hero, then? Want the next chapter now.
