Today it’s What If…? episode 7, the MCU show that dropped on Wednesday 22 September — the points worth flagging, the analysis and review, and predictions for where all of this goes next.

What I’ve been into lately
Started shooting all sorts of things for fun recently. Camera is a ZV-1, shooting RAW and editing in Lightroom.
This time it was Chichibu.
Episode 7, “What If… Thor Were an Only Child?”
The branching choice
This week it was what if Thor were an only child. The scene where Odin gives Loki back is so peaceful it made me laugh. Who’d have thought that simply returning Loki properly was all it took for the whole universe to be at peace lol
The Infinity Gauntlet
Just like in live action, the fake Infinity Gauntlet is properly sitting there enshrined!
All sorts of characters
The Ravagers, the Sovereign, the Grandmaster, Skrulls and plenty more alien races turn up this week! All drinking together looking like the best of friends, which was so good.
Surtur and Valkyrie are at the party as well, and it had me going, why is everybody getting along this well!! lol
Frost Giant Loki
Raised among the Frost Giants and Loki still ends up with those mysterious horns, which got a laugh. No sorceress stepmother raising him this time, so it doesn’t look like he’s a magic user.
The slapstick with Mother
The most peaceful story in What If…? so far! Thor terrified of his mum, everyone about to run out on him without a shred of responsibility — it all plays like Doraemon.
Infinity Ultron
Just when it looked like a peaceful ending, Infinity Ultron shows up in the final moments. Vision and Ultron haven’t been born yet on this timeline, so this is obviously an invasion by an Ultron who completed the Infinity Stones on some other timeline, right?
After watching episode 7
Where this goes next
Presumably episode 8 picks up straight from episode 7, and going by the group of images above it’ll get into what if… Ultron had got hold of Vision’s body, with the Black Widow who survived alongside Thor in episode 7 doing the fighting.
The finale looks like a story where each What If…? episode then collapses and they all assemble in the Void from the Loki series. And it seems like a little of what happens after each What If…? episode will get shown too. The key is Thanos Gamora, who still hasn’t appeared. Which timeline did she come from… Very curious.
