[Spoilers] Secret Invasion Episode 3 [Analysis & Easter Eggs]

Massive spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 3, which dropped on Wednesday 5 July 2023! I’m going to write up a rundown of the episode along with the analysis, the Easter eggs and my predictions for what comes next.

This post runs briefly through the things that caught my eye on a first viewing and the Easter eggs, and then gets into the analysis.

A recent hobby

Episode 3: each side shifts, and a daughter dies

Cracks opening up on the Skrull side this time, and stronger bonds on Fury’s side!

Take Beto, over on the left in the shot above — he did rather seem to be recoiling from how extreme it’s all getting.

Maybe Beto turns out to be the key man in a reconciliation with the Skrulls further down the line!

Meanwhile Fury’s camp managed to patch things up with Talos!

And the answer to why Talos won’t side with Gravik being simply that he’s with Fury — that was so good!

And then his daughter G’iah’s betrayal gets found out, and she only goes and gets killed!

What! Here!? G’iah!? Poor Talos, this is far too cruel…

But then again, maybe there’s a bulletproof vest on her chest and the death is being faked!! Ahh, where does this go?

Super-Skrull

The word Super-Skrull came out of Gravik’s mouth this time!!!

The hand cut open by the knife repaired itself — that’s the power of Extremis!!

What Dr. Dalton was researching last week was

• Groot
• Cull Obsidian
• Extremis
• Frost Beast

— that’s the lot! Enemies and allies who turned up in the likes of Thor 2 and Iron Man 3! And if their DNA is being collected, this must surely be the Super-Skrull project from the comics!!

What a Super-Skrull is:

An elite warrior born from surgical modification carried out for the purpose of defeating the Fantastic Four, carrying the abilities of all four members of the Fantastic Four at once.
On top of that, every one of those abilities outstrips the Fantastic Four’s own, and he can even use them in combination — a superhuman in every sense.
In the story he is said to have deliberately overwhelmed each of them with their own power, which is more than anyone could bear.

So: a Skrull carrying the abilities of the Fantastic Four all at once! The Fantastic Four have barely appeared in the MCU, so it looks like the powers being copied are Groot’s and the others’ instead!

Meeting Varra, Fury’s wife

Fury’s wife Varra was apparently a subordinate of his back in the day! The name Dreykov came up in the mission from that time and I got excited lol

The main villain of that film Black Widow!

She was furious with Fury, but at the end of episode 3 she got hold of a gun and was setting out to meet Gravik. Does this mean she’s planning to sacrifice herself and take Gravik down with her? But his healing and the rest of it are absurdly high now, so it looks like it will come to nothing…

Sonya’s owl

No idea whether that’s really its name, but Sonya’s owl seems to be called Hoot lol

Getting an eyepatch put on it and everything — adorable.

The code is his son’s name

The code belonging to the general the Skrulls are holding turning out to be his son Zachary — that was lovely.

Varra’s phone

Varra leaving her phone right in front of Fury and getting up from her seat, in what looked like a deliberate move — that felt loaded with something. Absolutely a piece of setup.
